The first geothermal heating plant in Poland – PEC Geotermia Podhalańska S.A. – was established in 1993. The first borehole was drilled by UOS Drilling S.A. The first town in Poland supplied with heat from a geothermal source was Bańska Niżna – currently 80% of buildings are connected to this geothermal heating network.
The film below explains how the largest geothermal system in Poland and one of the largest in continental Europe used for heating purposes came to be.
The benefits of using this clean, economical and ecological source of renewable energy include not only home heating but also: recreation (thermal baths), medical benefits (balneotherapy), but also benefits for agriculture and cosmetics production.
Other advantages include:
- Development for nearby towns and businesses
- Geothermal water is a fully renewable source
- It is one of the cheapest and cleanest sources of heat energy in Poland and a stable source of price
- A significant decrease in CO2 and SiO2 emissions was recorded over 30 years - during this period 398 thousand tons less coal was used.
We are extremely pleased with the development of geothermal energy in Poland and that we can be a part of it.
